I have never really had the desire to travel through the United States as I have to many countries in Europe at the top of my list. However, seeing as Montana was a mere 4 hour drive we though why not visit?
We love to road trip so we drove down to the border and headed on down to a town called Kila just outside of Kalispell. All up it was just under a 6 hour drive from Calgary and the perfect long weekend away for Brad and I.
I have done a little research beforehand as I usually do and we head to Going to the Sun road that runs through Glacier National Park. Boy, oh boy, were we in for a treat! The drive was so incredible and each turn even more beautiful than the last. There was a little road work going on so we couldn’t stop many places for photographs but if you can make your way down there, don’t hesitate and do it today.
We headed off to our cabin in the woods that I found on Airbnb (my far my favourite and most used site for accommodation). A 40 minute drive on gravel backroads and literally hitting dusty trail to our accommodation for the long weekend. We arrived and thankfully didn’t hit any deer which were all over the road. They are such beautiful and majestic creatures, however, they can be a bit dumb when in front of head lights so I was happy that we made it safe and sound.
Our cabin was exactly what we needed – a place to relax, unwind and enjoy the blissful sounds of nature and being away from it all.
We spent our time kayaking on Flathead Lake, eating all the foods, exploring the interesting Northern Montana towns and as much of Glacier National Park as we could. One thing we did miss out on was huckleberry pies! We spent our last day searching for the delicious sucks but as we decided to head up through Fernie in BC we didn’t see any on our travels. Thus why we will be back again.
Here are a few images from our lovely weekend away.
