Now I know what you’re thinking “What if they’re a serial killer?” All I can say is what if they’re not!
Ride sharing is a conveniently and cheap way to get around Canada while hopefully make some new friends along the way.
Here’s a short example of how amazing ride sharing can be!
Brad and I had no plans for our Easter weekend so we jumped onto Craigslist to see if there were any ride shares to Kamloops where a few of our friends were living. We had a friend recommend it and we thought with the two of us travelling together that we should be a-okay. We didn’t find a ride share to Kamloops but we did find one to Banff. We hadn’t made concrete plans so we decided to catch up with the guy from this ad to make sure he was who we wanted to travel with. After a beer, we decided that Miguel seemed like a genuine guy who loved to travel as much as us.
We jumped in his car the next day along with his friend Fred and ventured on one of my favourite road trips to date! Driving 12 hours with strangers turned out to be a hoot and I would not hesitate in recommending others to join the ride share bandwagon.
The way ride share usually works is the individual wanting the ride somewhere can reply to a post or make a post on Kijiji or Craigslist in the hope that someone might be heading to their destination. Some people want you to chip in gas money whilst others may want a hand in the driving or just for you to bring some sweet tunes and snacks. If you have a car, offer up a seat as you never know who you’ll meet. It’s a great way to get some good karma your way and slightly reduce our contribution to polluting this beautiful country. You’re helping humanity and mother nature all at the same time!
Get out there and ride share today!
