Alberta – Jasper Adventures

Just before I embarked on my adventure home to Australia for a short visit, Brad and I decided that a weekend to Jasper was in order. It was well worth the 4 hour drive! Jasper is such a scenic, beautiful and the reason I love Canada. Canada is such a beautiful and scenic country and I am so happy to be here exploring and taking in every beautiful moment I have here.

We decided to treat ourselves and stay at The Fairmont and we were not disappointed. We primarily use Airbnb for most of our travels as you meet the most lovely people and stay in areas that you likely wouldn’t have if you’d stayed at a regular hotel. Plus I love that homely feel of staying at someone else’s home. Anyway, our stay at The Fairmont was lovely and we spent some time exploring the grounds which are magnificent and of course sampling all of the wines.

We spent our days out at the lakes and driving about seeing the go to places, however, I was disappointed with the hot springs in Jasper. Give it a miss if you were thinking of going. It’s basically a heated pool with 500 children running around screaming. 500 may be an exaggeration, however, going to hot springs where you could have your private space has been such a intimate and enjoyable experience that I assumed this would be an option. Do check out Medicine Lake, however, if you’re looking at heading there sometime soon you may be sorely disappointed as the lake apparently disappears through the winter and reforms later in the year. The lake has no source in or out so has also been named Mystery Lake! You’ll see an abundant of wildlife and many people pulled over to the sides of the road with their iPhones and cameras out. Just remember that these animals are wild and deserve their space on their land. Don’t get too close as you may be attacked, especially if they are travelling with young.

Here are some photos from our lovely journey.

Enjoy!

  1. Gorgeous photos! And very cool to hear that you use airBnb – I have always wondered about using it and your comments on it make it sound like a great experience.

    1. It’s my favourite place to find unique places to stay and meet locals which is my favourite!
We might open up a room in Calgary if we get a 2/3 bedroom place so if you’re ever in the area feel free to contact me as I love taking people around to explore!

  2. Have you guys checked Fort Liard hot springs yet? They are in the woods in the middle of nowhere. There you should be probably more aware of bears than a crowd of kids.

    1. No I haven’t yet but they look absolutely divine! I think a road trip is in order 🙂
Thanks so much for the recommendation and it’s always lovely when there’s less screaming children around but I’m not too sure about the bears lol.
